Stéphane Morel connects what organizations know how to do with what they need to become. A certified practitioner of eco-design, circular economy, and regenerative approaches (Regenesis Institute), he is known for his ability to make complex subjects actionable and to move the lines where conviction alone is not enough. He believes that the transition is not decreed — it is built through collective intelligence, on-the-ground actions, and narratives that inspire action. Consulting Director at Ecovamed, a doctor in management sciences (Mines Paris-PSL), he teaches at ESCP and co-founds coalitions — InterScores, ScoreLCA, Programmable Circular Sustainability — so that good practices circulate faster than bad habits.

Speaker

Mauro Cordella is a Policy Officer at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV), where he works on carbon and environmental footprints, ecodesign, and the regulatory framework for environmental claims («green claims»).

Holding a doctorate in chemical, environmental, and safety engineering, he has extensive experience in sustainability research. His work aims to promote innovation and strengthen the links between science and public policy, particularly in the areas of the circular economy, bioeconomy, and sustainable production and consumption patterns.

Within the European Commission, he contributed to the development of European ecodesign criteria and the Ecolabel for various product categories. He is also the author of numerous publications on the assessment of environmental impacts, circularity, the intrinsic safety of chemical substances, and the sustainability of production and consumption systems.

Round table: Towards a more human lifecycle management: integrating well-being and social perception into decision-making

Life cycle management has emerged as a reference framework for analyzing and reducing the environmental impacts of products, services, and organizations. In recent years, it has been progressively enriched with methods and frameworks aimed at better taking into account human well-being and social dimensions. How can these approaches be consolidated and better integrated into organizational decisions today?

This roundtable will explore different experiences of integrating human, social, and societal dimensions into research and decision support tools, while discussing the challenges associated with their implementation. The discussions will also focus on how to bridge the gap between measured impacts and perceived impacts, in order to better take into account social acceptability and citizen concerns in decision-making.

The discussion will bring together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds, offering a cross-perspective on scientific advancements, decision-makers' needs, and practical applications.

Sara Russo Garrido is Executive Director of CIRAIG – International Reference Centre for Life Cycle Assessment and Sustainable Transition – and an Associate Professor at the Institute of Environmental Sciences at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). CIRAIG is a university research center internationally recognized for its expertise in life cycle assessment and the development of sustainability metrics.

Over the past decade, Ms. Russo Garrido has conducted and led numerous research projects on the Social Lifecycle Assessment (S-LCA) of products and services, as well as on the integration of social issues into corporate sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies, for both the public and private sectors. She is an editor for the’International Journal of Life Cycle Assessment (IJLCA), a member of the Social LC Alliance, and co-chaired the working group responsible for revising Guidelines on ASCV from the Life Cycle Initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Antoine Sautenet holds a doctorate in international law and a master’s degree in economics from the École normale supérieure (ENS) in Rennes. He currently holds the position of director of sustainable development at Michelin, where he is responsible for coordinating the Group’s performance in terms of CSR and exploring the materiality issues and the life cycle in the ESG dimensions. He is also a director of the Rubis group, president of the environmental and energy commission of the Chambre de commerce internationale (CCI France) and a member of the CNDSI.

Within the Michelin Group, Antoine Sautenet previously held various positions in public affairs and international trade in North America – where he represented Michelin in Canada (from 2019 to 2022), in Asia (in Thailand, from 2016 to 2019), and in Europe (in Paris, from 2013 to 2016). He was also a chargé d’affaires at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an associate researcher at the Asia Center of the Institut français des relations internationales (IFRI).

Arrivé à l’ADEME en 2018 après une première expérience de 9 ans en tant que consultant spécialisé en filières à Responsabilité élargie du producteur, je suis actuellement coordinateur scientifique et technique au sein de la direction régionale Hauts-de-France. En charge de la structuration des filières matières prioritaires et du pilotage de l’animation régionale éco-conception/performance environnementale, mes missions visent à co-construire le déploiement de l’économie circulaire en partenariat avec les acteurs économiques, publics, académiques et le monde de la recherche, et en lien avec la dynamique collective régionale Rev3.

Ghada Bouillass est Maîtresse de Conférences au Laboratoire Génie Industriel, à CentraleSupélec, Université Paris-Saclay. Ses activités d’enseignement et de recherche portent sur l’évaluation de la soutenabilité s’appuyant sur l’analyse du cycle de vie. Elle s’intéresse notamment à l’évaluation des impacts environnementaux et sociaux des systèmes sociotechniques au service de la décarbonation, tels que la mobilité électrique et les énergies renouvelables, ainsi qu’aux stratégies d’économie circulaire. Elle étudie leur contribution à l’atteinte des objectifs de soutenabilité et développe des approches d’aide à la décision pour les acteurs industriels et pour soutenir la planification territoriale. Elle est co-titulaire de l’alliance CircularIT -pôle A- (Chaire de recherche en Economie Circulaire). Depuis 2021, elle est également membre expert du comité « environnement et changement climatique » de l’AFNOR et a contribué, au sein de l’ISO, au développement de la norme ISO 14075 relative à l’Analyse sociale du cycle de vie.

After a career in business spanning more than 35 years, I joined RELAIS METISSE 15 years ago where, after a period of more than 9 years as a Field Commercial Manager, I have been the National Technical Representative for the past 6 years.

The exchanges with building experts based on Métisse, its ACV and its FDES have opened my eyes to the need to think about sustainable development before manufacturing, therefore to envision the future based on the current state of our technical capabilities, materials and their origins, and our knowledge of the laws, rules and expectations of the market related to the ’environmental« aspect in projecting this onto a future containing unknowns. This is the entire challenge of R&D, which focuses on reducing carbon emissions, reducing the environmental impact of inputs, and the sustainability of finished products.
